Anton Paar SAXSess

The Anton Paar SAXSess is a specialized X-Ray scattering instrument tailored to measuring scattering data at low angles. This allows for characterization of nanostructured materials and characterization of small species in solution. The instrument is set up in transmission geometry.

Capabilities: Small-angle measurements
Source: Cu
Location: Gilbert 020

Rigaku Miniflex and computer

Rigaku Miniflex

The Miniflex is a compact powder diffractometer that can measure up to 6 samples sequentially using the installed sample carousel. The Miniflex is simple to use and is the go-to instrument for quick phase identifications of crystalline powders that can be measured in a standard θ/2θ reflection geometry.

Capabilities: Powder diffraction
Source: Cu
Location: Gilbert 010

Rigaku Smartlab

The Smartlab is a highly configurable diffractometer that is typically equipped with a Mo source and a 1D line detector for pair distribution function analysis. These measurements can be done either in capillaries for transmission or on a flat plate for reflection. A Cu source and monochromator are also available for users requiring transmission geometries or higher quality data for standard diffraction experiments and a furnace attachment is available for in-situ heating measurements upon request.

Capabilities: Powder diffraction, transmission geometry, pair distribution function analysis, in-situ heating
Sources: Cu, Mo
Location: Gilbert 020

Rigaku Ultima

The Ultima is a multipurpose diffractometer that is typically set up for thin-film measurements but can also be configured for powders with a 12 sample carousel. Typical applications of this instrument are phase identification, grazing incidence measurements for thin samples on substrates, X-Ray reflectivity measurements, and stress analysis. The Ultima is equipped with an in-plane arm and a flat plate stage to maximize flexibility in measurement types.

Capabilities: Thin-film measurements, powder diffraction, in-plane diffraction
Source: Cu
Location: Gilbert 020

The Rigaku Synergy instrument

Rigaku Synergy

The Rigaku Synergy is a single crystal diffractometer for full structural determination of crystalline samples. It is equipped with dual X-Ray sources for experimental versatility and a cryostream for sample cooling. This unit is also equipped with a HyPix 2D detector allowing significantly faster data collection times.

Capabilities: Single crystal diffraction, low temperature diffraction
Sources: Cu, Mo
Location: Agricultural and Life Science Building
